TIPS FOR BETTER PROCESS SERVICE

  1. Make sure the address you have is good. A lot can happen in one or two years. Inaccurate addresses can incur additional expenses in locating the correct one for delivery. Ultimately it may also end in "NO SERVICE" if it can not be found.
  2. Let your server know if the witness is friendly. Knowing that the respondent expects these papers allows us to provide faster and more effecient service, especially when they aren't at home on the first attempt.
  3. Deadlines are important. A subpoena for duces tecum needs to be served at least 14 days prior to the date of return. A supbpoena for witness requires 5 days. Serving papers after these dates may allow the respondent an opportunity to quash or reject the subpoena. Get them to your server as early as possible. This will also avoid the need for rush and emergency deliveries and additional fees. For Virginia Attorneys, attorney issued subpoena forms can be found at http://www.courts.state.va.us
  4. If the service is not local, provide as much time as possible for us to send these to our out-of-town agents. This will prevent us from having to send a local agent on a long distance trip which will be very expensive.
  5. Make sure the name is spelled correctly. Not having the proper spelling or missing desigantions such as "Sr." or "Jr." may allow the respondent to refuse the documents.
  6. Good communication is the key for succesfull service. Keep the lines open and provide as much detail as possible to allow for the fastest and most effecient service possible.
  7. Posting is the last resort with Servor, Inc. We always strive for personal service first, unless instructed otherwise. Most posted service is a gamble unless you are very sure of the address.
